IAG developed a remote piloting simulation system (FirstFlightXR) for the Australian Airforce Cadets (AAFC) that includes a fully operating Learning Management System (LMS) and is cost-effective, flexible, adaptable, readily accessible and secure. FirstFlightXR is a game-based, immersive AR, VR and simulation experience that introduces the student to the basics of flight dynamics and the science of flight. It provides a practical learning approach in a ‘safe-to-fail’ environment, allowing AAFC members and instructional staff to master many aspects of flying before they take the controls of a live drone.

FirstFlightXR provides a basic and advanced level of tuition for rotary and fixed wing airframes. The virtualised training provides a considerable saving as it reduces the costs involved in damaged assets and wear and tear, whilst greatly increasing flying time. In addition to the flying experiences, FirstFlightXR also allows students to participate in instructor configurable STEM training sessions that teach the science behind flight such as rotor action, wing lift and other key concepts in an engaging interactive way.
